Below is a bit of information and few hints on what people can do. -
As you know there is a lot of discussion on the issue of climate change. This is an issue which impacts every one of us here in the community of St. Raphaela’s. As you may be aware, the UK are hosting the 26th UN Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP26) in Glasgow on 31 October – 12 November 2021. To coincide with this event and in conjunction with senior management, we have organised several whole school events, to promote awareness of the meeting and the positive changes we can make, both as a school community and at home.
We have registered with the Climate and Nature Summit 2021, and plan to dedicate one class period per day to show a series of empowering virtual sessions that encourage stimulating climate and nature conversations.
This may be an ideal opportunity to discuss some of the issues and concerns relating to climate change with your family. There are many simple and inexpensive ways we can all tackle climate change -
Turning off lights when not needed (This can result in a reduction of up to 15% in your family's carbon footprint and electricity bills).
Using your bins correctly (Much of what is placed in your waste bin can go into your compost or recycling bins. For example, all soft plastics can now be disposed of in the rycycling bin!).
Purchase and use of metal bottles instead of plastic bottles.
Switching off plugs at night or when not in use (Many electrical items use electricity even when on standby mode!).
We hope you will follow the example of the staff and students of St. Raphaela's, and try to Reduce, Reuse and Recycle.
